Dining Tables: Determining the options available

by guestpost on February 9, 2010

If you’re looking for a new dining room table, you’ll have many deciding factors that will lead you to your final purchase.  Here is an overview of the many types of dining room tables to help you narrow your search.  Some of the most common types of dining room tables are those made from hardwoods and softwoods.  Hardwoods include oak, beech, maple and cherry, all of which make beautiful painted or unpainted tables.  These woods are very resistant to scratches and dings and are appropriate for homes with children.  Softwoods, like pine, are more susceptible to minor damages but they can also be very beautiful.  Metals are also a very common material used to make dining room tables.  Iron, aluminum and steel are durable metals that make great tables.  These can sometimes be combined with wood or glass tabletops to make for a great contrast in textures and colors.  Plastics, while not very common, are sometimes used to make dining room tables.  Resin is a common type of synthetic material that makes resistant and beautiful dining room tables.  Wicker is sometimes made from resin and has a classic look that works for many homes.  The materials of dining room tables can add a lot to your dining room, so take some time to look at different varieties before you decide on one.
